IndieCade Festival 2017

IndieCade Festival started out in 2005 as an exhibition area for independent games at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the largest trade fair for video games in the United States. Since 2009, it has become a stand-alone festival for independent games allowing for discussions, exchange of ideas and exhibition. IndieCade is known as "the video game industry's Sundance", and awards given for games submitted have also exerted considerable influence in recent years.

IndieCade is highly diverse and all-encompassing. In addition to electronic games, a large proportion of the event is devoted to board games, physical games, installation art, interactive media and interactive demonstration etc. It also explores the interrelationship and significance of game media in terms of cultural, social and political aspects. Besides professional developers, participants also included many artists, academicians and social actors. In fact, "profit-making commercial works" are the least discussed at IndieCade.

It is significant that two entries from Taiwan have been shortlisted in the competition this year, including Red Candle Games' "Detention", which is a horror game set against the backdrop of a Taiwan campus, and Zinno Studio's "Un-destined", which is an escape game full of puzzles. In fact, "Detention" became the first Taiwan game to win a prize at the IndieCade Festival. It is hoped that the world will see more of Taiwan's creativity and culture in the future.
